Simon Barker’s media blog

About Me

with one comment

My name is Simon Barker. Simon Barker is not my real name, but a nom de plume I use to avoid spreading my work too thinly. Since leaving school I have worked variously as a journalist, script writer, video editor, assistant producer, record producer DJ and music promo director, and I currently work as a key operative for my father’s media consultancy firm, liaising with terrestial and non-terrestrial broadcasters, advising them on the best way to reach their specific objectives, as well as providing more general consultancy to magazines, record labels and new media firms. My considerable experience enables me to quickly and authoratatively make important decisions with far-reaching consequences. I am staunchly anti-war, and have been since it started. Politics does not interest me, though I consider myself to be a socialist.

I grew up in a suburb of London with my parents and sister in a modest 6 bedroom house before taking a gap year at the age of 18, during which I explored Asia, Australia and Europe, mostly with my own money. Asia resonated with me on many levels, including spiritual, and the experience of travelling completely independently for 2 months opened my eyes to the full spectrum of human reality. After graduating at the age of 21, I moved to central London and got a job working for a well-known television company before deciding that the people I worked with were not quite as intellectual as I might have hoped. What I mean by this is that they were not the brightest buttons, and practically no one there could ever be expected to fully actuate their potential in the way that I feel I have.

In my free time I like to read and write classic literature, write scripts, play with my band ‘Pints and Fucking’, DJing and networking. Music plays a large role in my life, as I have a large record collection and am always listening to new tunes on my iPod Classic.

I am in the process of writing my auto-biography/meta-novel ‘Untitled’, which I hope to publish soon.
